Something better change!

It's been nearly 5 months now since the big move from The Swan Halesowen to North Devon.Today I closed in on my 100th pub in the area.
A trip to Holsworthy is always a nice drive. Not so for the wife who had a routine Mammogram in one of those cab less lorries to look forward too. After a rummage round the Original Factory Shop and a couple of charity shops, where I purchased a book entitled Alan Hansen's Strangest Football Injuries for a princely 10p, we crossed the road to pub no.95 The Old Market Inn.
According to WhatPub?com this pub has the biggest selection of ales of any pub in the town.Any pub offering more than 4 in North Devon is usually a Wetherspoons. The pub was having the restuarant re decorated so we had to eat in the bar and listen toRod Stewart's greatest hits, much to Loraine's enjoyment.
On the bar there were only 4 ales.Bay's Gold from Paignton,Tintagel Arthur's Ale,Bombardier and a beer callen Bomb brewed exclusively(badged more like it) for the pub.I opted for the sweet Tintagel and was quite pleased. We asked the lady behind the bar who brewed Bomb but she said it's a secret as if people know they won't buy it!
Loraine said "is it Doom Bar!"
It wasn't that and St Austell was declined too so it could be a Coors effort as a North Devon Camra guy believes it to be brewed in Burton.
Pump 5 had Westons Family Reserve cider on but I didn't see a 6th pump.
Incidentally the food was very tasty.A definate return is planned when next here despite the 6 or 7 pensioners in the pub all leaving by the time we had eaten.
On to pub 96 and the boss of the White Hart Hotel,John Summat, replied to my criticism of local pub beer offerings when questioned by the North Devon Journal. When asked if he felt the beer being offered to punters was of poor choice and variety he claimed that the person making that review (me) had obviously not visited many pubs! At the time I had been to over 50.
Well today we went to his pub only to be greeted by two hand pulls containing yes, you've got it,both bloody Doom Bar!
We opted for Sheppy's Orchard cider on keg instead.
Not one to go back too and next door, the Crown and Sceptre, only had Doom Bar when we visited last year.
On the way home and needing a wee we tried the Union at Stibbs Cross, The Clinton Arms at Frithelstock and The Cyder Presse at Weare Giffard but all were closed between 2.15 and 2.45pm.
So tomorrow,a trip to Ilfracombe is planned to collect a shelf unit bought on Facebook.
Lets hope for Something Better!
